capitalising
on the 'ripple effect'...
If you're partial
to the pleasures of a Chinese takeaway you must pay
a visit Stratford's
Must Go. But don't expect the usual takeaway menu.
This is Chinese revamped, or "East fused with
West" as Must Go general manager puts it. The
food and the style have all been redefined; traditional
Chinese fare has been restyled making it
more contemporay
TRADITIONAL favourites
are there, of course, like spring rolls, lemon chicken,
beef in oyster sauce,
sweet and sour dishes, chop suey and chow mein. But many
have been tweaked. The mini spring rolls for instance contain
cheese and chicken: "It's a kind of cross-over." Salmon
and steak also feature, as do Szechuan specialities, Thai
and satay dishes, aromatic crispy duck, and a range of
extremely popular garlic and chilli dishes. The food is
cooked fresh and looks wonderful. "Your eyes eat half
the dinner before you actually put it in your mouth.' Even
the takeaway packaging has the Must Go edge-you collect
your meal in wok boxes, an the containers inside are microwave
friendly.
Must Go is the brainchild of Patrick Li and family who
opened the Ripple Café on
the other side of the River Avon to great acclaim a few years ago. "We're
giving oriental food a different perception," explains Patrick's son James.
Times have changed, and we feel the traditional Chinese menu is now somewhat
out-dated. People don't expect the kind of food they used to eat, they want
something more sophisticated."
Must Go's adjoining restaurant has a clean cut contemporary style continuing,
in the shape of minimalist interior, 'squishy' settees and blackboard broadcasting
Chef's specials, it looks to be every inch as different as the takeaway. Must
